University of Moratuwa Initiates Collaboration with Orel Corporation

partnership with Orel Corporation, aiming to foster innovation and collaboration. This partnership was formally initiated through the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on 10th October 2024, signifying the commitment of both parties to explore collaborative opportunities.

The NDA was signed by Prof. Gunawardena, Vice Chancellor of UoM, on behalf of the university, and Mr. Gamini Ranasinghe, Director of Supply Chain and Business Development, on behalf of Orel Corporation.

Objectives of the Collaboration:

  1. Commercialization of Innovations:
    The partnership seeks to explore the potential commercialization of innovative projects developed at UoM that align with the product portfolio of Orange Electric, a leading brand under Orel Corporation.
  2. Broader Academic-Industry Engagement:
    Discussions will also focus on wider collaborations with the Engineering and IT faculties for mutually beneficial projects.
    • UoM’s Faculty of Engineering, comprising 11 departments, covers virtually all engineering fields, including Biomedical, Civil, Chemical and Process, Computer Science, Earth Resources, Electrical, Electronics, Materials Science, Mechanical, Textile and Clothing, and Transport Logistics and Engineering.
    • While several departments actively collaborate with industry partners, this initiative aims to establish a more formalized relationship with Orel Corporation, leveraging UoM’s diverse expertise for impactful solutions.

This partnership represents a significant opportunity for both institutions to align academia with industry needs, promoting innovation and driving mutual growth.
